Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)

WIC provides nutrition and healthcare services, as well as nutritious foods, to approximately 50,000 women and children in all 55 counties of West Virginia. Eligible participants include pregnant or nursing mothers, infants, and children until their fifth birthday.
According to the National WIC Association, poor nutrition during early childhood increases the chance of anemia, adds to healthcare costs, stunts a child's ability to learn and limits memory development. During he critical period of a child's development, WIC provides a safe, nurturing environment for education, healthcare and social service referrals and free access to nutritious foods.
